UNITED STATES — American fashion model Zion Hutchinson, who hails from Camden, New Jersey returns to D.M. Fashion Book. He made his modeling debut last summer in an editorial for our site (see it here).

This time around, the tall, dark-skinned 22-year-old model does an exclusive Nike shoot for our online publication. The shoot was lensed by photographer Kellie Ferguson also known as Sniper Bae.

This editorial, which was shot inside and on the rooftop at the DoubleTree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City was a nod to our Camden roots.

Inspired by our childhood in the inner city, for this editorial, I want to take my readers inside the streetwear fashion in Camden. Streetwear originated in the late 1980’s, early 1990’s in the urban areas. It mainly consist of denim, tee-shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and sneakers.

It is a comprehensive approach to fashion and includes styles which intersect, differ from mainstream fashion considerations and are based on individualism and not strictly focusing on current fashion trends.

Before Off-White, Amiri, Dior, Palm Angels and Balenciaga, the biggest streetwear brand in my city was Nike.

People wore Nike to school, nightclubs, block parties, beaches, basketball games and players also dressed in the brand on the court in South Jersey. For residents in my local community, fashion can be an escape from their day-to-day lives and often keeps people out of trouble.

Instead of focusing on big flashy athletes, rappers and celebrities, this editorial looks to shine a light on the differences that streetwear can make to everyday people’s lives. We can’t wait to see more great stuff come out of this editorial and from Nike in general.

For the shoot, I (Donovan Moore) outfitted Zion in a Nike Logo-Print Fleece-Back Cotton-Blend Jersey Hoodie, Air Structure Triax 91 OG Rubber-Trimmed Mesh and Suede Sneakers, Air VaporMax EVOSummit White Bright Crimson,’ Training Sport Clash Logo-Print Perforated Stretch-Jersey and Mesh T-Shirt, Training Sport Clash Logo-Print Dri-FIT Shorts, Running Stride Ripstop-Panelled Flex Dri-FIT Shorts, Boxer Briefs, and Six-Pack Everyday Cushioned Dri-FIT Socks.
