NEW YORKKerry Washington is more than just a cute face from the Bronx. Before invading Hollywood, the Scandal star earned a B.A. from George Washington University.

Scandal’s finale truly marks the end of an era, but you better believe Washington is only just getting started.

Kerry Washington sees the impact #TimesUp and #MeToo have had on Hollywood, and she wants you to recognize it, too. The actress is the star of ESSENCE‘s May 2018 issue (and she’s lit as ever), where she talks the end of Scandal, the importance of representation, and how Hollywood is changing thanks to women speaking out.

Olivia Pope has given me the sense that anything is possible.” Pair Kerry’s groundbreaking work on the Shondaland series with her contributions to the #TimesUp movement and there’s no surprise why she’s on our 2018 #Woke100 list!

Photographer Kwaku Alston photographed the shoot. The issue hits newsstands this Friday (April 27).
