Commemorating the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of the late great Biggie Smalls, also known as The Notorious B.I.G. (he was murdered on March 9, 1997), Brooklyn‘s Barclay Center paid homage to the Bed-Stuy bred. Last night’s Brooklyn Nets vs. New York Knicks game was dubbed “Biggie Night“. The Barclays and Nets organizations gave the rapper a very special honor.

A Brooklyn Net jersey with The Notorious B.I.G at the top, number 72 in the middle and the Biggie‘s lyric, “Spread love, it’s the Brooklyn way” was hoisted to the rafters, and retired in honor of the late rapper.

Additionally, a permanent banner featuring his lyric “spread love, its the Brooklyn way” from his hit single “Juicy” will also be permanently displayed in the arena.

Biggie’s mother, Ms. Voletta Wallace, and Puff Daddy spoke to the crowd. Biggie’s widow, Faith Evans, and two children (Tyanna and CJ), childhood lover and good friend Lil Kim, DJ Envy, Ice Cube and more.

For the event, Lil Kim styled an all-black ensemble with a pair of $1,970 Giuseppe Zanotti Glitter & Crystals Embellished Ankle Boots, which are available at Barneys.
