J. Cole Releasing New Album ‘4 Your Eyez Only,’ Is It Going To Be As Impactful As Tupac’s ‘All Eyez On Me’?
Two years ago, Fayetteville, North Carolina native and rapper J. Cole released his double platinum album, 2014 Forest Hill Drive. The St. John’s University alumni (he graduated magna cum laude in 2007, with a 3.8 GPA) may release his new album, 4 Your Eyez Only on December 9th via Dreamville under exclusive license to Roc Nation.
An iTunes pre -order also surfaced online.
Jermaine‘s new album is such a great Christmas present that I am looking forward to hearing. The album will consist of 10 songs.
With such a dope album title, (4 Your Eyez Only) and as lyrical, inspiring and impactful as Jermaine is, do you think J. Cole‘s new album will be as impactful as Tupac‘s All Eyez on Me?
All Eyez On Me is the late great Tupac Shakur‘s fourth studio album. It was released on February 13, 1996 under Death Row Records and Interscope Records. Many Hip-Hop fans and music critics considered the album to be one of the best albums of the 1990s Rap Era. Some even said, “All Eyez On Me is one of the greatest Hip-Hop/ Rap albums of all time“. The album was certified Diamond by the RIAA.
The album featured the Billboard Hot 100 number one singles “How Do U Want It” and “California Love“. It featured five singles in all, the most of any of Shakur‘s albums. Moreover, All Eyez On Me made history as the first double-full-length Hip-Hop solo studio album released for mass consumption. It was issued on two compact discs and four LPs.
The project was the second album from Tupac to hit number-one on both the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, selling 566,000 copies in the first week. The album won the 1997 Soul Train R&B/Soul or Rap Album of the Year Award posthumously. Shakur also won the Award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist at the 24th Annual American Music Awards.
J. Cole is very lyrical and if he proves on his new album that he is one of the best lyricists in the game, I think 4 Your Eyez Only could be as impactful as All Eyez On Me. Cole‘s debut solo album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, his second album, Born Sinner and his third album, 2014 Forest Hill Drive all reached the number one spot on the Billboard 200. CWTSS and BS were both certified platinum, while 2014 FHD went double platinum and s0ld 353,000 copies in its first week. It was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 58th Grammy Awards. The single “Apparently” was also nominated for Best Rap Performance at the 58th Grammy Awards. The album won Album of the Year at the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards, and Top Rap Album at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. If you check Cole‘s last album’s stats, they’re not too far off from All Eyez On Me‘s stats, which makes me beleive that 4 Your Eyez Only will be as impactful as Tupac‘s offering. If Cole‘s last stats were high, they are most likely going to increase once his new project arrives on December 9th.
