NYFW: Tom Ford Fall 2016 Women’s & Men’s Collections
Last February, donbleek.com reported that American fashion designer Tom Ford announced that he will present his Autumn/Winter 2016/17 menswear and womenswear collections in early September to align the show with store deliveries in an effort to “close the gap between runway and retail” (see it here). A handful of other designers and brands including Burberry, Rebecca Minkoff, Thakoon Panichgul, Misha Nonoo, Giles Deacon and Matthew Williamson are also taking this approach.
Ford officially returned to the New York Fashion Week calendar and last night Wednesday (September 7), he hosted a cocktail and dinner party at the almost-under renovation former Four Seasons restaurant space to present his latest fall 2016 women’s and men’s collections. The venue shuttered over the summer, but reopened for Ford‘s special presentation. The space was set up with an elevated stage built around 24 dinner tables, anchored by a large bowl of white roses.
Special guests in attendance included Naomi Campbell, Lala and Carmelo Anthony, Russell Westbrook, Zayn Malik, June Ambrose, Alica Keys & Swizz Beatz, Tom Hanks, Jon Hamm, Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman and more.
Standout pieces included classic, short nipped jacket and pencil skirts in fading leather, tweeds, and herringbone styled with statement belts and thigh-high leather boots, a leather coat with fuchsia shearling lining, a color blocked intarsia fur coat, slit black wool dress, and cutting dresses in bright sequins. Other highlights included sequined turtlenecks with long, fringey skirts and piles of bold gold jewelry.
They fellas wore velvet, leather, jacquard or wool tight jackets and relaxed pants, coupled with yellow turtlenecks. A single-breasted grey tweed suit with slouchy pants, a beige cashmere turtleneck with a shaved velvet fur coat and a white evening tuxedo were some of my favorite pieces.
Fashionistas and fashionistos are now able to purchase the fall merchandise that appeared on the runway yesterday at the brand’s Madison Avenue store in Manhattan.
