Christian Dior Fall 2016 ready-To-Wear.

French fashion house Christian Dior is set to announce that Maria Grazia Chiuri will join the brand. They are expected to make the announcement after Dior‘s couture show in early July.

Chiuri comes from Italy‘s Valentino. She will be the first woman creative director in the company’s 70-year history, following in the footsteps of Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferre and John Galliano.

I understand that it will be announced after the (July) couture show,” one of the sources said, according to BoF.

Dior‘s sales growth has dropped in the past year and a half, going from double-digit to flat sales growth in the first quarter of this year. Dior‘s parent company is LVMH, the industry’s biggest luxury group.

Last fall, Raf Simons departed from Dior, after 3 1/2 years.

Mayhoola, the Qatari investment company that owns Valentino, just acquired French luxury house Balmain for a reported $569 million (see it here).
