Serena Williams Covers Glamour Magazine’s July 2016 Issue; Talks Starting A Family
International tennis star turned fashionista Serena Williams covers Glamour Magazine‘s July 2016 issue.
Norman Jean Roy lensed the shoot. On the cover, she wore an Off-White jacket and Wolford bodysuit accessorized with Chanel earrings. Styling was courtesy of fashion editor Jillian Davidson.
Inside, Williams talked with the publication’s editor, Melissa Harris Perry about her tennis career which expands almost 20 years, starting a family, fashion, her legacy and much more.
MELISSA HARRIS-PERRY: You have been in our lives a long time, playing pro tennis for nearly 20 years. Is the game still fun?
SERENA WILLIAMS: Yes! When I first started really playing, in â98, I was super excited to see all the people I grew up watching.⊠I loved Monica Seles, Steffi Graf, and Pete SamprasâŠ. Now it is different yet somehow more exciting. Everything now is a bonus.
MHP: Youâre one Grand Slam away from tying Grafâs singles record. Do you think about it when youâre playing?
SW: I do. But itâs not the end-all, be-all. Itâs something I would like to achieve, but Iâve achieved so much on the court and off already.
MHP: Youâve got Wimbledon coming up. Whatâs your strategy there?
SW: Iâm going in as defending champ. So thatâll be exciting. I want to have fun. Serve big. Play aggressive on the grass.
MHP: Youâve also got the Olympics later this summer. Any concerns given everything weâre hearing out of Brazil right now?
SW: Iâm not taking Zika lightly. Especially being older, I definitely am going everywhere protected. Iâm protecting myself.
MHP: You have been called âthe worldâs greatest athlete.â Do you welcome that label? Does it feel accurate to you?
