Marland Backus Fronts Demna Gvasalia’s First Balenciaga Campaign

Last fall, reported that Alexander Wang presented his farewell collection for Balenciaga at Paris Fashion Week. Wang spent three years as creative director at Balenciga before he announced his departure to focus more on his eponymous collection, which he launched over 10 years ago, at the age of 21, after two years at Parsons (see it here).

We also reported that Balenciaga (owned by Kering) has tapped Demna Gvasalia, the founder of the Paris fashion label VĂȘtements to succeed Alexander Wang.

Months later, we now have a preview of Demna Gvasalia’s first Balenciaga campaign, fronted by model Marland Backus. The Brooklyn-based model stars in the house’s spring eyewear campaign.

Backus walked for both Balenciaga and VĂȘtements this season. She was reportedly styled by Gvasalia‘s go-to collaborator Lotta Volkova Adam.

The graphic printed fur jacket that Backus wears in the ad did not debut on the fall runway, but it is most likely part of the pre-fall 2016 collection that’s been kept tightly under wraps.
