Another day and there is another story at a luxury French house.

Yesterday Monday (February 8), we reported that Phoebe Philo, creative director of Céline was leaving the French fashion house, after the Fall/Winter 2016 collection, which is being presented in Paris next month.

We also mentioned that another rumor surfaced (which we did not believe) saying that Philo will take over the reins at Azzedine Alaïa, owed by Richemont. In a statement, Azzedine Alaïa S.A.S. formally denied any changes in the creative direction of Maison Alaïa.

Today, we have an official update and Philo is not leaving Céline (owned by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton).

WWD says, “Phoebe Philo and Céline are to continue their long and fruitful collaboration, squelching an avalanche of online speculation that Philo was eying the exitEmployees of the fashion house were reassured this week that the designer and the company are remaining together.”

“An internal memo seen by WWD — jointly signed by chief executive officer Marco Gobbetti and Philo — spells out that the designer and the companyare more motivated and committed than ever to their partnership and will continue to create beautiful products.'”

The memo acknowledged that the company has been the subject of reports “based on rumors, not truths,” lamenting the “poor journalism” and “dubious sources” that have fueled the gossip mill.

The 43-year-old British designer started out at Chloé alongside Stella McCartney in 1997 and then joined Céline in 2008. She is credited for revamping the once-tired Parisian house with her signature brand of luxury minimalism. Philo is considered one of the most talented and influential designers in the world.

Philo is a graduate of London’s Central Saint Martins fashion school, was classmates with Stella McCartney, and worked with her when McCartney launched her own collection after graduation.

The next Céline show is scheduled for March 6 in Paris.  There are still positions up for grabs at Dior, Saint Laurent and Lanvin.
