Congrats: Andrew Wiggins Named Kia NBA Rookie Of The Year
A huge congrats is in order! donbleek.com would like to congratulate NBA player Andrew Wiggins. The Minnesota Timberwolves player was named Kia NBA Rookie Of The Year.
Last summer, the 2014 NBA Draft took place at the Barclays Center in Downtown, Brooklyn. Andrew Wiggins was selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The former Kansas Jayhawks player became the second Canadian-born player to be drafted No. 1 overall, joining Anthony Bennett two seasons ago. There are now three Canadian-born top-5 picks in the common draft era, and all were on the Cavaliers until August 23, 2014. Wiggins and Bennett were traded to the Timberwolves, along with Thaddeus Young as part of a three-team trade involving the Cavaliers, Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers. The Cavaliers received Kevin Love from the Timberwolves, where as the 76ers received Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and Alexey Shved from Minnesota and a 2015 first round draft pick from Cleveland.
Wiggins is the first Canadian basketball player in NBA history and the first Timberwolves player in franchise history to win this award.
This season, he averaged 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists, but he did so with a player efficiency rating of just 13.9, slightly below the league-average mark of 15.
Wiggins already overcame adversity and media scrutiny.
We’re so proud of him!
