Paris-based fashion designer, photographer and creative director Karl Lagerfeld is still on top of his game at allegedly 81 (his actual age has never really been confirmed) and the German designer doesn’t have any intentions of slowing down, in fact, he’s doing the complete opposite.
After Fendi‘s Spring 2015 Runway Show in Milan this past Thursday (February 26), the Italian house announced it will debut its first “Haute Fourrure” collection during Couture Week in Paris, France this July. Lagerfeld is the creative director for fur & RTW at Fendi. The actual show will take place on July 8. Lagerfeld also shows Chanel‘s Haute Couture collection during that week.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, “The event coincides with Karl Lagerfeld’s 50th anniversary designing furs and ready-to-wear for the Roman house, putting him in the unique position of staging two couture shows in the French capital. The German designer is also the couturier at Chanel.”
“For me, fur is Fendi and Fendi is fur,” said Lagerfeld.
“It reinforces the tradition, magnifies our savoir faire, and it gives us a chance to experiment, as couture is a platform for experimentation,” Pietro Beccari, Fendi chairman and chief executive officer said. “Haute fourrure will set a differentiation between Fendi fur and the rest.”
“People are willing to invest in a Fendi fur because they know it is produced by the best hands in the market,” he said.
Fendi plans to mark its 90th anniversary in 2016.
