Don Bleek’s Recap: Fabolous Take Over Irving Plaza For Coors Light & Ice Cube Search For The Coldest MC Competition
âCoors Light and Ice Cube Search for the Coldest MCâ 2012 stopped at NYC’s Irving Plaza  this past Thursday (July 26), for its final search. Backed courtesy of Coors Light, hosted by DJ Drama with a dope performance by Fabolous, Coors Light and Ice Cube found 2012 âColdest MCâ. I was in the building for the wall-to-wall packed show.
Finalists from other cities including New York, Philly, Baltimore, New Orleans, Charlotte and Atlanta approached the main stage and showcased their talents for the rough crowd of New Yorkers. But before the show even begun, Ice Cube did a short question and answer interview for a small selected group of journalists and bloggers including myself.
After DJ Drama announced the finalists, South Central, Los Angeles-native and former NWA rapper Ice Cube rocked the stage. He performed some of his classics tracks such as âNatural Born Killazâ (without Dr. Dre), âCheck Yourselfâ and âToday Was A Good Dayâ. Before exiting the stage, Ice Cube said, âNew York n***a still got itâ.
Followed by Ice Cubeâs performance, he and DJ Drama came back to the stage to announce the âColdest MCâ 2012 winner which was up & coming rapper Felony Fame.
Around 10:30, Fabolous came to the stage! He opened his hour-long set with âYou Donât Know Bout Itâ. Loso performed records from his long list of catalogue including âDeny Itâ, âYoungâN (Holla Back)â, âSo Into Youâ, âLet You Goâ, and âBreatheâ. He also performed some of his Soul Tape and TINC mixtapes series tracks and his verses to âRack Cityâ and âSay Ahhâ remixes. During the middle of his set, Fab brought out Bad Boy recording artists Red CafĂ© for âIâm Illâ and French Montana for âPop Thatâ. Before leaving the stage, Montana announced that his debut album, Excuse My French arrives this November.
