Even though Young Chris hasn’t put out an official album since 2005’s Brothers From Another, the Philly emcee managed to stay relevant. Young Chris formerly of  Roc-A-Fella/Young Gunz  just signed a major deal with Division 1/Universal Motown Records. Young C is the first artist signed to Division 1, a company owned by singer/songwriter/producer Rico Love.

In an exclusive interview with XXL magazine, Young C said, “A month or two ago, Rico reached out, he had seen some of the viral videos that I had shot. One of the first things he said to me was like, ‘Yo, I almost forgot how nice you was! What’s the [label] situation? What’s going on? I told him, ‘I’m free.’ I had two [other] deals on the table at the time.”

In a video , Rico Love said, “My first time meeting with Jay-Z was when I was performing with Usher on The Truth tour in 2004. The first thing I said to Jay when I met him backstage was, ‘Yo, I love Young Chris. I’m a big fan of Young Chris. He said, ‘Yo that’s my little man; he’s got a bright future.’ I always remembered that.” Peep the video below.

Young C’s new mixtape, The Reintroduction, is scheduled to be out on November 20. Chris also says “expect to hear a single for the album by early next year.”
