Below is a recap of the Diddy & friends concert that I wrote for XXL magazine. The article is now published on XXLmag.com

Diddy knows how to throw a party. The hip-hop mogul performed at the House of Blues in Atlantic City over the weekend and as expected, surprised fans by bringing out a long list of guest stars including Fabolous, Rick Ross, Red Café and Fat Joe.

The Bad Boy leader came out by himself though, shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday (July 3) . Entering the stage to the sounds of his 1997 hit, “Victory,” Puff gave the mic to the crowd to rap the lyrics to Biggie’s verse. After that Diddy took it back to the Puff Daddy days by rapping his lyrics to “Around The World,” “All About The Benjamins” and “Mo Money Mo Problems.”

About 15 minutes into Diddy’s set, he brought out Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper-Vick of Dirty Money. They performed “Love Come Down” and sang the chorus to Diddy’s and Keyshia Cole’s 2006 smash single “Last Night.” Diddy then screamed “Where Brooklyn at,” as Red Café ran out performing “Hottest In The Hood,” “Paper” and “I’m Ill,” bringing out Fabolous. Fab stuck around to go through a bunch of his chart topers like “Make Me Better” and “Thrown It In The Bag.” Fat Joe then burst onto the stage to a screaming audience as he ran through “Lean Back,” Slow Down (Ha Ha) and “Make It Rain.”

The biggest reaction of the night erupted when Diddy-Dirty Money welcomed Rick Ross onstage to perform “Angels.” The Boss then went into his own mini set, reciting “MC Hammer,” “B.M.F.” Super High” and “Hustlin’.” But the spotlight was back on Diddy as the night closed out. Throwing wads of money into the audience, Diddy grabbed the mic for “O Let’s Do It” (Remix) and “All I Do Is Win” (Remix) with Ross, Fab and Red Café by his side.

Diddy’s new album Last Train to Paris will be released later this year. —Donovan Moore
