FRANCE — Chanel S.A., French privately held company owned by Alain Wertheimer and Gérard Wertheimer, grandsons of Pierre Wertheimer, recently announced that they will stage its 2020 cruise (resort) collection in Paris.

The show will take place inside the The Grand Palais, a late 19th-century exhibition space in Paris on Friday, May 3rd, 2019.

This emblematic venue has been the showcase for the extraordinary decors imagined by Karl Lagerfeld for the Chanel Haute Couture and Ready-to-Wear runway shows since 2005,” the house said in a release.

Lagerfeld has previously reimagined the legendary Grand Palais as a perfected Versailles gardens, a NASA space shot, a giant supermarket, a polar ice station and, most recently, an elegiac beachfront. Its soaring glass roof and immense space providing the perfect backdrop for the German couturier’s imagination.

Karl Lagerfeld’s decision to hold the show at the Grand Palais demonstrates the close link between the House and this exceptional location, and confirms Chanel’s desire to contribute to the cultural and artistic influence of Paris around the world,” Chanel added in the statement.

Last year, the house of Chanel held its cruise 2019 show at this location as well (see it here).

DM Fashion Book recently reported that Louis Vuttion will show their 2020 resort (cruise) show in New York on May 8 (see it here) and Italian fashion house Prada‘s 2020 resort (cruise) runway show will also take place in New York (see it here).

Prada and Louis Vuitton have also coincidentally timed their events to happen before and after the “Camp“-themed, Gucci-backed 2019 Met Gala — one of the biggest, most highly anticipated annual fashion events.
