USA Hearst is making some major changes!

It is being reported that longtime Harper’s Bazaar‘s creative director Stephen Gan is leaving the publication after 16 years, to take a creative director role at Elle.

He will work closely with new editor-in-chief, Nina Garcia, who took the top masthead at Elle back in September (see it here). Garcia served as creative director of Marie Claire since 2012; before that, she was the magazine’s fashion director from 2008 to 2012. Her new post is a return to Elle, where she was the fashion director from 2000 to 2008.

Gan was very instrumental in Harper’s Bazaar‘s remarkable success in recent years. He has developed franchises such as Bazaar IconsGan also serves as the editor-in-chief of magazine, which he founded in 1999, and VMAN, which debuted in 2003.

ELLE was founded in 1945 by Helene Gordon-Lazareff, a journalist who fled to New York during World War II and returned shortly after the liberation of Paris. In 1985, creative director Gilles Bensimon and publications director Regis Pagniez launched the American edition, which featured the work of the era’s top models, stylists, and photographers. In 2011, Hearst bought 102 magazines from Lagardère, including the international editions of ELLE, for $890 million.

Today, ELLE publishes 44 international editions, and the American version alone reaches 16 million women across print, digital, mobile, and social channels. ELLE’s March and April 2018 issues—will be Gan’s debut.

It is also being reported that WSJ duo Kristina O’Neill and Magnus Berger or CR Fashion Book‘s Carine Roitfeld will replace Gan at Harper’s Bazaar. Stefano Tonchi is another rumored candidate.
