Fashionable Rapper Tyga For Footwear News; Opens Up About His Favorite Sneakers
Tyga was photographed in Los Angeles by photographer Robin Harper for Footwear News’s Sneakerhead issue. In the recent months, the Los Angeles-native launched his sneaker collaboration with L.A. Gear, the Liquid Gold and Liquid Silver.
He talks to the publication about how L.A. influences his choice of sneakers, the Jordan 17s being his most special sneakers, his great sense of fashion and music. Below and on the next couple of pages are some highlights:
On how Los Angeles (L.A.) influences his choice of sneakers and how the rap culture inspired his style:
“Being from L.A., I like light shoes. I’m not into anything heavy. I like Vans, classic Chucks — very California. The whole culture of rap inspired my style. It comes from the streets and having nothing. You just want to prove you can make it out of your situation. Sneakerheads collect the craziest, most expensive shoes because you couldn’t have them when you were a kid. When you have the money to do it, they are more meaningful. A lot of artists are doing collaborations with fashion designers and brands. We’re all trying to move the culture,”.
On his most special sneakers growing up:
“My most special sneakers [growing up] were the Jordan 17s. They came in a briefcase, and I took them to school with me with my homework. It felt like I knew I was worth something. You know, sneakers just complete the outfit.”
